I'm just wondering if I wish to do an A/B with a bunch of different Eminence drivers. Do they all have the same mounting hole positions? Anyone know if the Beta 15CX is the same also?

thanks
craig.

Mounting hole spacing is the same on all Eminence 15" drivers. But this shouldn't be your only concern when comparing them - Each is tuned differently and require different cabinets. Some are pretty similar, but some are vastly different.

"Modern" bass drivers really bother me in that the flange area seems just preposterously narrow. As a mechanical engineer I haven’t been know for my elegant, minmalist "Japanese car parts" design - I’m more of a ham-fisted, more-is-better kind of guy. I like the Altec 16" rim on the 15" driver. Plenty of surface area for tee nuts and the like. But the narrow rim drivers just don’t seem to leave much mounting surface.

Am I just nuts here?

Yeah, I agree. Especially with the H290 horn flare. That thing has like a 1/4" lip, which just isn't enough.

They are for my Karlson cabinets [message #43418 is a reply to message #43396] Fri, 19 December 2003 10:55 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I bought the Karlson cab's from Replay George. The 15" Kilomax's it had are going in my Bill E's cabinets so I was thinking what 15" Eminence would be best in this cab - and may try the 15" Beta coax.

Wayne - maybe you're familiar with the Karlson cab and know which driver is best?

thanks
craig.

You could use the Eminence Omega 15 with good results, but I don't think I'd use the Beta 15. In fact, I don't think you'll find acceptable performance when substituting any of the pressed-frame Eminence 15" models, because the cabinet size will probably be wrong.

The Eminence Beta 15 is tuned quite differently than a Kilomax 15, needing a much larger box. The Kilomax 15 performs well in relatively small cabinets between about 3ft3 and 8ft3 but the Beta 15 needs a much larger box. The Beta 15 should be used in cabinets no smaller than 5ft3, and would work well in boxes as large as 30ft3. If your cabinet is between 5ft3 and 8ft3 or so, you can probably do the swap, although you'll most likely need to change the port.
