Jerrod,
The 416's are much better in a LARGE room. I have much better luck with the 2226's in my 12' X 16' living room. Not to mention for best results, the 416's like a 8 cu' cabinet to be at their best. I also like the 2226 for least amount of crossover parts if crossed over @ 1600hz. I will say that the 808's on the 511B horn crossed over @ 500hz will give you more detail on those little heard sounds in the background. I was playing Emerson Lake Palmer(Best of) and it seemed like I could hear the synthesizer breathing, those little obscure sounds that are lost in your average direct radiator speaker systems. My best listening spot is in the kitchen, which is behind the living room with opening 4' X 5' between the two rooms. That is only way to get back about 12' from the speakers. Other than that, horn speakers don't do well in "near-field" listening scenarios. If you have the room, and smallish push-pull tube amps, the Altecs are definitely a treat, but my modest(really small) house does not allow for such luxuries.
Cheers, Ron
