I was at work on Wall Street when the power went down. Walked home with a bunch of people from the office, found a bar and drank beer till about 10, put a few suburban types up in my sweltering apartment -- before air conditioning at least people had fans. We got up about 6 am and went out early -- it was cooler outside. No music, but we weathered the inconvenience just fine. Everyone in NYC remained in remarkably good spirits.
Does anyone else remember the '65 blackout? I was just a kid at the time, but I have a dim recollection of flashlights and a transistor radio and waiting for my father to get home.
