Hey, I'm sorta fishing for a high effeciency 8" driver with excellent midrange characteristics up to about 1.5-2 kHz. In particular, something that can be horn loaded is a must, high effeciency, good response in a 300-1,500 Hz bandpass, in an exponential horn. I know the there are the alpha and beta 8's, but I'm looking for something signifigantly higher end than these units. Thanks guys. Adam

PHL 2520 8" midrange is 100db sensitivity. I have one and it mates well to my SA planars.http://www.phlaudio.com/datasheets/20_pdf/2520_2530.pdf Another interesting driver I have not tried is the PHL 3450 10" 101 db senstivity, 1/2 space sensitivity 4.9% http://www.phlaudio.com/datasheets/25_pdf/3450.pdf /hehe

I don't understand JBL. Last year during my research the woofer of choice for my project was a JBL 18", which is no longer made. The new ones didn't meet requirements. Many folks recommend old JBL drivers, less new ones. Why is this so? JBL cutting corners on new products vs. old ?

Awesome, much thanks to everyone. I'll have to take some time out to look over all of these drivers. For home use, one day I'd like to try using horn loaded Seas Excel 7's, like the ones I have in my car. For hardcore P.A. use, I imagine they don't have the ruggedness and durability. Besides, a bunch of half drunk people at a party couldn't appreciate the beautiful detail of the driver anyway :P That's why I'm interested in something more durable. I'll look over everything. Thanks again! Adam
