Hello

I made in DIY a configuration:
FE 166 E out of plane baffle (55cm top + 32 cm broad and 23 cm of depth)
+ Passive box Audax PR 240 M6 in bass reflex 70 liters, event of 7cm of diameter and 9.5 cm of depth.

My two problems:

Audax is completely in withdrawal because of its lack of output and traine.
Fostex is not exceptional. Depth and dynamics misses? Crossover not adapted, size of the baffle plan??

could you help me in order to find solutions
(new filter, size of baffle plan ...)

cordially

A couple of questions. Are you using the FE166 as a midrange/tweeter?
If so, I've found the fostex a little lacking in the high end in
spite of their specs. Try adding a KSN1038. No idea what's up
with the Audax. I assume you've matched the drivers for efficiency.
The fostex I have are around 93-95db/W.

Hi,
The KSN1038 is the piezo tweeter Wayne uses in the smaller Pi
speakers. I've used them in a few speakers and they work well.
As for the audax, you'd have to run the T/S parameters through
pialign or another speaker box program to tell if you got close
on the box size. I didn't look up the FE166, but most of the
Fostex line near that numerically are around 95dB/W while the
Audax that are in the Parts Express catalog are around 90dB/W.
What that means is that the woofer is going sound really quiet.
The effeciency numbers for all the drivers have to be within
maybe 1dB, or you'll have to pad down the mroe efficient driver(s).

I am building a setup which is close to yours.
For the bass enclosure I am using a vifa 10 inch woofer with an electronic 24dB crossover at 150Hz.

Now, I am looking for a full range drive unit and was thinking about the Fostex FE166E.

How do the Fostex sounds?

Try building an electronic crossover, it will give a better performance than a passive one, I built the one that Rod Elliot designed.
