Any disadvantage to using the Pi alignment for a stage "floor monitor" using a beta 12 in a ported box? I would expect excellent bass. I might have to rolloff, depending on the situation, but a pialign enclosure using a Beta 12 with a piezo horn should make a great monitor.

Comments?

Thanks

We used to offer a product line using the Beta Series components, and it was called the "Premium Studio" series. The Beta 12 was used in a three π and the Beta 15 was used in a four π. Both of these models used compression horns for HF, but the one π and two π speakers in this line used KSN 1038 piezo tweeters with Beta 8 and Beta 10 speakers, respectively.

Anyway, as for the Beta 12 in a PiAligned cabinet, response is nice and flat with an f3 of 60Hz. The size of such a cabinet is 2.7ft3, tuned to 40Hz with a port of 3.85" diameter and 4.2" length. Deepest flat extension results from a 7.3ft3 cabinet tuned to 44Hz. System f3 is 40Hz for this alignment.
