she's a huge, huge music fan, but currently uses garbage speakers on her pc for sound. for her birthday, i'd like to do something about that. i'm thinking of building her a pair of the two π bass reflex speakers (towers would be too large for her apartment), and then i would drive them with the $130 8-Watt integrated tube amp kit from www.tubesandmore.com.

anyone have any thoughts on how the pair would perform? sound levels would be moderate, probably no more than 80db, so I'm assuming that 8 Watts would be enough power. additionally, any suggestions on diy interconnects/speaker cables? this would be my first foray into the world of diy speakers/electronics, and if i like the sound i might step up to some higher-end pi speakers.

thanks

I think you're off to a great start, and have picked well. I do a lot of business with Antique Electronic Supply, and I find them to be a great place. The little two π's will work very well with an 8 watt tube amp, so I'd say you'll have a wonderful combination.
