Hi gang!

Is there a particular horn type than is suited to a closer listening position? I'm looking for something that I can run a compression driver to 800 hz. x-over point with a listening position of no more than 12 feet from speakers. I've considered Altec 811's, JBL 2370's and the round Tractix horns. Any thoughts? Thanks! Jerrod

I prefer 90x40 horns to "salad bowls" but either will work fine as long as they're designed for use in that frequency range.

Hi Wayne!

Thanks for the response. I guess what I was wondering is if the common 90 x 40 dispersion pattern was well suited to a "nearly" near field setup or if the tighter patterned tractix horns would be a better fit. I like the vintage Altec's, both the 511's and 811's. I've been told by several people the 511's tend to sound better, but am afraid of thier size in a small room. What's your take? Jerrod

I like the sound of the 90 x 40 horns better for home hifi systems. The listening room is rectangular, so it works best to have a horn pattern that matches it.
