i've just finished the cabinets for the 2 pi towers and had a question about the wiring - is it ok to attach the wire to the back wall of the cabinet or should i just let it hang down the middle?

also, does anybody have experience with spikes on the bottom of these speakers?

Good question...I was wondering about some spikes or at least feet for the towers to seperate them from the floor, but since my sons room is carpeted and he is moving them around a bit as they are still new, I have not gone there.

Anybody?

Oh by the way I finished the second tower yesterday. I still need to put the finish on it though.

There should be nothing wrong with attaching the wire to the back wall, as long as you make sure there's still enough 'free' wire hanging from behind the driver(s) so you can get them out of the box if you need to. You may wan't to gain access to the interior of the box in the future to experiment with damping, change drivers, whatever. Also remember to do the same at the terminal end(!)

It's a great idea to use nylon strain reliefs to hold wires in place when building two π towers and other large speakers. Having wires hanging is no real problem, but the strain reliefs keep them from pulling loose or vibrating against something when the speaker is in use.

You can get a package of these strain reliefs at most hardware stores. I think Radio Shack stocks them too.

are a pain in the rear! Slight relocations required LIFTING the spikes free of the fibers...after a few weeks I turned the spikes inward. Sam

BTW, do you REALLY want his speakers coupled to the floor better? better bass for him, AND the family member in the next room :(
