Hi Wayne,

Thanks so much for all your help in my project!

Will the 2426 mounted on the H290 flare fit through the flare hole on the PI-4 pro? It looks like it should go in if it enters from the front at an an angle, but it will be tight.

If it won't fit in that way, then I need to mount the assembly before sealing the front of the box on. There's no way I'll be able to mount the driver on the flare once it's in the box since the back will be sealed as well. What do you recommend in that case?

Thanks!

- Ken

Attach the two through the woofer cutout. Put the horn in place, and attach the compression driver to it.

By the way, how did things go with your cabinetmaker?

I must be missing something... [message #38485 is a reply to message #38484] Sun, 29 September 2002 15:31 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Hi Wayne & Sam,

I met my cabinet maker yesterday and tied up all the lose ends except this one about getting the horn/compression driver in. My wife had a good time looking through the veneer catalog he brought and we settled on an unconventional non-wood veneer which should look pretty sharp. If nothing else, it will make for a good photo later.

As you know, mounting the JBL compression driver on the H290 horn is not easy. Even after cutting away material on the H290 to make room for the three mounting bolts and to allow them to turn, they are going to be fiddly to get on even outside the box.

Are you suggesting that I mount the horn first, and then reach in through the woofer hole with the compression driver in hand and mount it on the horn by feel with my other hand? How do I reach the bolts on the top!? Won't I be blocked by the top of the box? I think it's impossible, so I must be missing something basic.

Thanks!

- Ken

Leave the horn loose during assembly [message #38486 is a reply to message #38485] Sun, 29 September 2002 16:36 Go to previous messageGo to next message

That's exactly what you must do, but mount the driver to the horn before mounting the horn to the cabinet. The thing to do is to preassemble the 2426/H290 combination, so that you know everything fits. Then take the assembly back apart and put the horn in the baffle cutout, and re-attach the compression driver while the horn is still loose. That way you can move the entire assembly around to get access to each of the bolts.

It's really not too bad. It isn't as easy as the PSD2002, since it uses two-bolt mounting and will fit through the baffle cutout. But with the horn loose in the cabinet, you'll find that assembly isn't too difficult.

the psd-2002 fits thru the opening [message #38487 is a reply to message #38485] Sun, 29 September 2002 16:38 Go to previous message

required by the H-290 easily, even when mounted on the horn already. And the 2426 is only another 1/4 inch larger in diameter, it should fit when put thru at an angle. Sam
