Wayne,
I sold my ASL WAVE amps and acquired a nice Decware SE84C Zen tube amp. It only produces about 2.3 watts @ 8 ohms, but 5 watts or so @ 4 ohms. It is the opposite of most SETs / tube amps in that it produces MORE power at lower resistance ratings...it will successfully drive a 1 ohm load! Anyway, given the unique character of this amp and the fact that I will build a pair of Pi speakers from one of your kits, what are my best choices?

I recommend any of the Studio and Thermionics Series and the Theater Series four and seven π Speakers. My personal favorite of these is the Theater seven π cornerhorn speaker. They have excellent bass response, and they absolutely fill the room.

There are a lot of π Speaker owners that are running Zen amps, so I get a lot of feedback. The Zen amp is a little bit lean in the bass with some speakers, but the ones mentioned here work very well.

With simplicity a hallmark of the Zen amps, I'd suggest looking at the 2 Pi Towers: besides the stuff listed on the Pi site for this speaker note that it has no crossovers and can be built using 12 inch and 16 inch MDF shelving. Then you can turn the speaker sideways to get a thinner, more modern look.

If you can get past drilling 6 holes, rest is easy construction. (Personally I have no problem with black painted speakers.)

And you have the option of putting them in the corner to boost the bass.

For less than $150 for the kits including cabinet materials plus a little effort you'd be SET. (Sorry)
