my mate has speaker call PSD 2.8 and he says that they are good quality but they sound rubbish. Is it his amp or are these just poor speakers?

Most likely the speakers... Amps don't sound a lot different from each other unless you're tlaking tube vs solid state.

Also was just wondering two things

1: my speakers case/box/housing is rattling from the base (fron part where the cones are) should i i glue the wood together so that this stops and if so what glue should i use, any old wood glue or do u pros have so recomendations

2: whats a good amp/home cinema kit for for $400/�300/400Euros
