There is no reason you can't rotate the horns from their natural 45° orientation. It is sometimes the best thing to do in rooms that are very long and narrow. But one of the main features of the π cornerhorn is matched angular coverage of each subsystem. When the horns are pointed the same way, each shares the same 90° pattern and coverage is equal. This ensures that the reverberent field is uniform and sound through the room is even.
