A PiAlign'ed Omega 18 response curve is optimally flat, more so even than the larger box. But I like to put this speaker in a larger cabinet, using an EBS shelved alignment for use as a sub. The box is tuned to 30Hz, and what the response curve does in this alignment, is to drop about 3dB at 100Hz, and stay linear at this reduced level down to 30Hz. The PiAligned cabinet has no drooping response from 100Hz, but extension is only to 50Hz. Having a 50Hz -3dB point is certainly good for some situations. But if you want deeper bass extension, an EBS alignment becomes more attractive. That's why I prefer a larger cabinet for this woofer.
