They came in 4.5 cuft vented enclosures. This matches the minimum recommended in the E.V. information sheet I got on this site. I changed the enclosure grilles to lose the broken wood lattice work and then sanded then down to new wood and went from fruitwood or dirty pecan to light oak. They look very nice in their new contemporary clothes. A larger enclosure, of maybe 5.5 cuft might be better but these have a very quick and clean bass as is. One inmate recommended 5 ft sealed and the t/s does suggest this. I tried sealed and the bass was tighter but midranges bloated. Not my cup of whatever. These speakers are like the Altec a-7 in that folks who are not into speakers hear them playing and comment on how natural the music sounds. tdc
I had to stop by the office and checked my e-mail. Yup, sold out notice. Ergo, JBL is playing straight with orders. Nuts! Anyway one 2242 is probably not that different from the dual 2226 setup in the 4648a system I did get. Its the old case of a larger cone versus dual smaller cones. Maybe we will have better luck next time. tdc
