I am having a bit of trouble getting a clear explanation of Qd. If somebody could explain how to calculate it, and what the significance of this calculation is I would really appreciate it.

Assuming you're talking about the term Qd described in the "Pi Alignment Theory," it is essentially the reciprocal of Qts. The derivation of this term is described in the before mentioned document, and it is also discussed in the "readme.txt" file in the PiAlign program distribution.
