Hi Wayne and group!

Seems more than one of us jumped in on the "to good to be true deal" of the dual 2226J's with the 4648A cabs. I too, without considering the multitude of problems when using an array instead of a single driver. Perhaps, a good implementation would be to use a 2380 horn and 2446 motor, this would let us cross much earlier hopefully dodging the "problems" that arise with the dual woofers. Could you please advise us of the necessary compensation to match the 2446/2380 hf system to the 100 db. lf system? Also with your experience with the 2226 woofers, what value of inductor would you suggest when lowering our crossover "event"? I understand if you want to avoid this one as it really doesn't have much to do with your design offerings! Thanks! Jerrod

And more by searching "JBL"

I've just sent to your E-Mail address the schematic for the 600Hz and the 800Hz passive networks used in π Speakers containing 2" exit drivers on horns having cutoff not to exceed 500Hz.
Thanks, Bill! [message #35309 is a reply to message #35306] Mon, 04 March 2002 15:11 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Really - Thanks.

But Jerrod and I have had a long running dialog about speakers, and I think he was asking about an implementation using a lower crossover, to limit comb filtering from dual drivers in the midrange. He already has the schematics and all information about the π Speakers 1K6 passive crossovers. This implementation is just a little bit different.

Thanks Wayne!

Is the lf section of the crossover appropriate for the dual 2226J's? Thanks for the 2446 schematics. Thanks! Jerrod

If you plan to use two woofers, I'd run it as a 2.5-way, with just a large coil on the lower woofer to limit its output to bass only. The upper woofer would be a midwoofer, and it should be connected using the π crossover. Be sure to use a Zobel on the midwoofer to prevent peaking near the crossover frequency.

Hi Wayne!

I'm assuming the schematic you forwarded has the zobel in place? If so I can just copy the schematic part for part while substituting the component values to attain proper attenuation? Jerrod

That's right, exactly.
