I went to the JBL site a few weeks ago,and they have a few unusual
loudspeakers with flat baskets, white paper cones, and small but powerful cobolt magnets.

Why would bass drivers made made with a flat basket;wouldn't this
make the excersion less, and would not be so 'long-throw'.
I've also heard white paper cones don't absorb heat like black cones, which makes them suitable for outdoors with heavy prolonged sunlight.

Also some of the JBL drivers are not just have vented pole pieces, but vents all around the middle.

Narrow basket profile is desirable for improved clearance. Vents spaced radially around the magnet connect to one side of the gap, and the vent in the center connects to the other side of the gap.
