I came accross a very good software for audio and video conversion. The software is free and is available at the website www.radgametools.com. This software is called bink and smaker. It can play and convert into any available format. The available format for this software are .wav, .avi, .mp3, .mov, .qt, .bmp, .gif, .tif, .jpg, and many many more. Just try this wonderful software.

No it has not hurt my machine till now. I usedit to conver .jpg to .tif format.

i'm specifically looking for a DVD to xvid/divx convertor.
