To get more deep bass, or thumping bass a Graphic Equaliser helps re-produce more bass. Cos a bass bin linked with a high/mid section and two power amps ain't gonna produce any more bass than what is recorded. But when the recording is fairly weak, I boost eq bands or tone contols on the mixers, which leads to distortion at high volume levels. Is there any other device which can boost the bass without loads of distortion?

Hi Rudi

if mixes you listen to are multilayered, you might try Behringer's EX2200 which has some sort of bass 'processor' plus a comb-filter/'excitor' for mids & highs (with varible high-pass filter and blend) - very nice for $69US - bass enhancement places more load on the speaker but think its a better alternative to simple eq - really like it with 3BX.

If you add a second bass unit without adding more mid/high frequency, and crossover this unit between 80 and 150 Hz or whatever, you can increase your bass output in that region by up to 6 db over reference because you have two bass units and twice the power playing vs one mid/high unit.
