Recently I blow up a pair of 12 inch 2 way Fane pa speakers, rated 200w rms, and also blew up a pair of McKenzie 600w rms bass bins at the same time. This must be beause I played Drum and Bass at very loud volume, with a lot of boosted frequencies turned up full on the 31 band stereo Graphic Equaliser. It didn't distort much, just sounded a bit muddy. I drived the speakers from two amps. First a soundlab 3000 power amp rated 125 w rms for the high/mids and a QSC power amp rated 500w rms for the bass.
The strange thing is the levels on both amps were only set to half. And the mixer master vol was on 3/4, but all 31 x2 graphic eq frequency bands were set to full, which must have made the amp clip, otherwise the speakers wouldn't have blown.
Some do ya know any speakers which handle lots of abuse from bass, and are very high wattage, and long excursion? Also do any speakers have built in protection cicuits against bass driver overload, not just treble overload protectors? Also are there any power amp, which hardly ever clip, and have protection shut off circuits? Which will save the trouble of lots of blown speakers, and wasting more money on buying replacement drivers or possibly damaged amps, due to impedance loads, and overload.
