I need to buy a pair of monitors to produce techno and drum and bass. Would Pi speakers work well for producing electronic music? I'm pretty weak in this area of knowledge so if you have any good links, I will read them.

Some of the Pi speakers go down to 25Hz, so that should be plenty low for that type of music (if that's what you're asking). It depends on which ones you decide to go with. I decided to build the Theater 4 Pis because I sometimes listen to that stuff myself and don't want to have to use a sub. They're also very sensitive, so they don't need much power. I haven't built them yet, so I can't really remark on how they sound.
