Grand Master
hi wayne and fellow audio freaks, last night i experimented with my 4 pi's. i turned the box around to simulate a corner horn and left the outboard horn front firing ( i know this is academic, just trying to paint a picture). immediately the soundstage doubled, something i prefer but the bass lacked the impact and speed of the front firing woofer. if was to build another 4 pi bass enclosure and stack it ( one facing the front and the other facing into the corner will i get the best of both worlds? which would be the correct way to wire the woofers, and can i expect an increase in efficiency?

cheers,

george

Hi George, Wayne, and Everybody,
I was wondering if the bass is diminished because the speaker bass cabinet is not optimized for horn loading. Should a 'convertable' Pi speaker be derrived from the cornerhorn box? Sure sounds like a cool experiment.
Take care,
Steve

When you point your woofer into the corner this way, two things happen. First is the bass is increased from corner loading. This happens whether it faces forward or backward, as long as it is close to the corner. The second thing is the corner acts as a reflector for the midrange. When forward-facing, the midrange is mostly direct energy but when rear-facing, it is entirely reflected energy. This tends to create an artificial sound stage.
