(1200 watts/8 ohms)^.5 is 12.2474 amps. Hardly stressful for wire rated for 7 amps at distances up to 100' (I do agree that heavier gauge wire is better, but 3' of 18 gauge in a commercial {NOT hi end HiFi} enclosure isn't as bad as 150' of 16 gauge that you'd find feeding it in it's common application).
