Hi,
I have inquired previously about 1 and 2 pi's. My question is that both these designs use piezo tweeters, are ribbon tweeters an option or encouraged for these? My thoughts revolve around the dayton ribbon from parts express of the infinity ribbon from speaker city.
Thanks,
Brent

I love the old Infinity EMIT tweeters. As a suggestion, try to find a JBL 2115, which is an 8" midwoofer. They're very nice sounding speakers. A JBL 2115 paired with an Infinity EMIT tweeter would make an excellent small speaker.

Hi Wayne,
Since the jbl 2115 is not readily available do you have any thoughts on the 8" pioneer Part# 290-045 from parts express for this application. I am looking for smallish speakers for a 2nd system powered by a st70 and foreplay.
Thanks,
Brent

I'd spend some time watching for JBL 2115's. I think they're worth the effort for what you're trying to do. If you can't find 2115's, you might try the Fostex F200A, which I think is a 2115 copy.

Brent,
I have some experience with this driver. The PE catalog specs are WRONG. Look on the Single driver forum for the correct ones. My examples (grey foam surround) are 94 dB @ 1kHz, and reasonably flat from 500 to 5000 Hz. Around 6 kHz, they have a sort of nasty 10 dB peak, which can be brought down with a notch filter. Above 6 kHz, they produce good output out to past 12 or 13 kHz. They play well at 100 dB levels, and are rated for 60 watts, in spite of their rather limited Xmax.
Another similar unit you might consider is the pioneer 8 in. WOOFER, speced to play out to 7 kHz. (PE 290-042) with a 30 oz. magnet and vented pole piece...haven't played with them much yet, except to ascertain the Fs and z plot. Sam
