Hi Wayne and group -

right now have a long-throw (9.5mm) Eminence built 4 ohm car woof in a 12" Karlson - - almost "reaches" a CD-8 Eminence driver on 811 - running ~ textbook 1.8Khz network its lacking some midrange "life" - believe part of the problem besides limited woofer HF extention is due to baffle tilt of Karlson which may demand a driver with rising on-axis response (btw - the little Karlson woofer kicks pretty well)

anyhow - have any of you run your Eminence 1" drivers in 1.2Khz xover regions and if so how were sound and dynamics? - I've tried 1.2K 3rd order hipass and it seemed relatively unstrained - didn't try it at intense levels - am tempted to run 4th order passive hi-pass.

Best wishes!
Freddy

MD2001 - Good down to 1Khz; PSD2002 - Slightly higher [message #34414 is a reply to message #34413] Sat, 15 December 2001 12:01 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I think you'll be OK with 1.2kHz crossover point, certainly if over 2nd or 3rd order. The MD2001 is good to 1kHz, the PSD2002 a little higher. I cross mine over at 1.6kHz third-order but 1.2kHz is probably OK if the horn loads there and the slope is high enough.

I find it weird that Eminence only advertises the frequency response of the 2002 as down to 1.5 kHz, yet the power rating is at 1 kHz. I am in agreeance with Wayne, I think you could run it down to 1.2 without a problem, you'll lose some power handling, though.... If you can keep the volume down a bit it should be fine.

Very cool rendering? What did you use to do that?

I've become pretty good with Imagine, Pv3D and Pov-Ray. I love that stuff!

Hi Wayne and group!

thanks for the reply (wow - great image by Adam!!)

-looked at my old graphs of the Eminence CD-8 without network on Altec horns - 811 has a LF corner just ~ 500Hz and 511 somewhat below 400Hz ~1/2 octave so these old horns should provide some decent loading. btw - a PV CH-2 looked real smooth - not sure about the compensation needed - surprisingly, it measured very extended in HF - sounded kinda laid-back - is CH-2 considered CD?

Very Best!
Freddy

I've used Peavey CH-3 horns for quite a while. At first, I was concerned about their two-piece design. But after testing and trying them out for a while, I realized there was no consequence. The seam is acoustically small and they measure and sound nice.

Hi again Wayne!

my Peavey have a 10" by 19" flange, are 2-piece with depth to throat (which has a round-square inital transition) is ~11.625" - are those CH3?

take good care!

Freddy

Nope. Yours are bigger. [message #34421 is a reply to message #34420] Sat, 15 December 2001 14:32 Go to previous message

The CH-3 has a 5" x 14" mouth.
