The original article I'm getting the schematic from calls for some pretty rare caps: PCB-filled Cornell-Dubliner Model 121J. The power supply section is a 5R4WGT rectifier followed by an CLCLC. The first C is 10uF @1000V; L is 8H @200mA; next C are 5 10uF @600V; next L is 20H @ 50mA and the last C are 4 10uF @ 600V.
I'm hoping, as you suggested, to use 50 and 40uF, respectively, in the last two C sections.
The B+ is 430V, so it looks like stock 440V oil caps should do the trick across the board, including the 10Uf @ 1000V.
