There are new files in the GroupBuild/Projects directory. One is the 6J6 push-pull amp schematic that Douglas drew up. What do you guys think we should call it?

Isn't this a 1624 running UL. I think there should be a V3 label on the tube connected to the OPT......Colin

Good job Sir! [message #31012 is a reply to message #31008] Fri, 18 March 2005 21:26 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Well, I wouldn't call it a 6J6 amp. The finals can be 1619/1624 or HY69 if we're going DH. The 1624HY69 only requires a change in filament voltage and suppressor plate connections.

On filament current. With a TX capable of doint 2x 6.3@2.5A and a 2A variac on its primaries, you can dial in what ever filament voltage you want. hell even 807's souldn't take much more fiddling to get running. All of them run the UX5 socket, so minor wiring and a twist of the filament knob and your convertable amp is off to the races. All take the same size anode cap...

Perhaps label it as the E-Linear for the time being...

The "S-265" ought to read "S-265-Q, modified". For maximum future versatility, I think you guys should get taps at 20, 30 and 40%. We'll use 30% for the first build, but I have uses for the others for tweaking and other options, and this is how I will get my next pair done. You can even use two at a time, one for g2, one for the drivers. The circuit is adaptable, that's part of why I like it so.

As for a name...I am happy with the "Merlin" suggestion.
regards,
Douglas

I like the name Merlin!

On the other hand, wasn't Sir lancelot Lady Guinevere's true love? Lanccelot might be the logical choice.

lance-alot is a good one as well, I don't have any problem saving Merlin for a truly stupendous creation. Can't go using up all the 'good' names at first...

On filaments, I forgot your second half question above. The valves don't seem to get any where near as quiet as when trimmed with pots. I do hate the hum, and it gets quite quiet when properly adjusted( which is not even close to being difficult ).

50R is a good value. it will run just over .1A with 6V filaments, so get at least a 2W item.

Dogulas

one further suggestion... [message #31017 is a reply to message #31008] Sat, 19 March 2005 05:38 Go to previous messageGo to next message

can you put a link to the directory at the top of the page? not that I need it, but having it easy to find would be useful to visitors learning the layout I think.
regards,
Dogulas
