I finally acquired enough pieces to play Bullit so I could watch the chase scene and be happy I still need a sub but the sound is decent through what I have. The Pioneer receiver isn't the most musical thing I've ever listened to but it's a cheap model. I have around 400.00 in the whole shebang and while it wont replace my 2 channel system it has it's place. It does make a movie come alive which is it's reason for being.

Some of the new HT stuff is pretty good. Which model Pioneer did you buy? Might be good to recommend it for others for a budget model that sounds nice.
The systems that bug me are the ultra-cheap ones that have tiny little micro-speakers. Look at the specs, they indicate 10% THD. In a world of components that advertise 0.001% THD, that's nothing to brag about.
The Pioneer is a VSX D 309. I doubt it's a current model as I bought it used for 85.00. It has 60WPC X 5 with less than .2 THD. So it's not high end for sure. It has AM/FM, 4 other inputs three are video and one is audio with no phono. It's easy to setup as I was able to do it without trouble I stayed with vintage speakers because the little KLH's aren't fatiguing to listen to. Here's sort of a breakdown on the system cost TV- Phillips 27" used 65.00 HT Receiver- Pioneer VSX D 309 used 85.00 DVD- Denon 755/1910 refurbished 135.00 Speakers-KLH 17's used 4@ 25.00 ea 100.00 No sub woofer yet. Total 385.00
I have a Yamaha Ht integrated amp I got for 25.00 I'd rather use but it doesn't have a remote or do DTS. It has less power than the Pioneer but sounds a whole lot better. I tried to find a remote but it's a model that uses a fancy remote and the guy kept it for the new receiver he bought to replace it.

I had a couple of Yamaha receivers, one made in 1978 and the other made in 1980. The second one was a little more powerful than the first. Both were excellent.
