It's getting a lot of buzz on other forums.

I've been using it for two channel audio with SACD, DVD-A and redbook with very good results for such a cheap unit. It doesn't image as well as good tube amps.

The one I'm using has no mods but I do have power adapters on order to upgrade the power cord to a computer grade.

Where did you get your SA-XR45? How much do they cost, if you don't mind my asking? What is the amplifier configuration?

I bought mine from a local shop. They sell for 300.00 to 400.00 depending on where you get them. They have six 100 watt digital amps.

Detailed info can be found on the pioneer web site and Newform Ribbon web site.

If find their best attribute is with redbook CDs and DVD-As using digital coax input. Others have fond a way to use the Beringer 2496 crossover.

Thanks for the info! [message #28422 is a reply to message #28421] Mon, 08 December 2003 18:39 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Scholl,

I recently finished breaking in my XR45, running it via coaxial from a DVD player in my notional two-channel HT. Unfortunately, my old DVD player flamed out at about the same time and I just got the Pioneer DV45a to use with it. I'm running them 24/7 to speed up the DV45a's break in. Once I figure out how well they work together, I may bring the XR45 out into my main system to hear there. I have my doubts that it will cause me to sell my amp and linestage, but I have to try anyway. Regardless, if it is good for my HT set up, I may look into some simple modifications (eg, a normal IEC connector so I can use a decent cord without an adaptor).

Wayne,

I picked the XR45 up via an internet dealer for $300. The coaxial feed seems to be the best, albeit that channel won't work for some DVD-As or any SACDs if that is what you want.

Regards,

Chris

They have six 100 watt digital amps.

100W according to the marketing dept. The spec on the Panasonic website says:
100W per channel (10Hz-20kHz, 6 ohms, 0.9% THD).

I've never seen a distortion rating that high. And everyone else rates amps at 8 ohms. A proper rating would also state how many channels are being driven. I doubt it NAD would rate the same amp above 50W.

Where did you order your power cord? Will it work on the SA-XR25?
