The LAB12 driver makes an excellent bass-reflex subwoofer in a 2.0ft3 to 5.0ft3 cabinet tuned to 20Hz. When you consider that output in the bottom octave of all the popular subs is direct radiation anyway, it makes a lot of sense for hifi use. But for prosound above 40Hz, a folded horn will obviously provide more output.
