What is your best horn project for a club band? Something that would hit 60hz and still be good for singers would be nice. These will be used in venues up to 200 or so. How much for the plans? Thanks, Luther
For venues up to 200 Hz for vocal and non-bass instrument the DR200s are fine; they're what I use with my 4 piece R&B band. They're useable to 80 Hz, which is adequate again for vocals and instruments but not electric bass or kick-drums; in small rooms I don't bother running those through the PA. If you want to have that capabilty use the DR250a- that will handle the bass instruments just fine; I use one for my bass, alone in small rooms, along with a Tuba 24 in large venues. All my plans go for $9.95, including photos and instructions,at www.billfitzmaurice.com.
The DR200 uses an eight and has average sensitivity of 105dB/1watt; the DR250a uses a ten and SPL is 107dB/watt. The DR250a will handle a bit more power as well, so total output capability is about 130dB with 200 watts in, while the DR200 will put out about 127dB with 150 watts in.
The main difference is size and bandwidth; the DR200 is useable to about 70 Hz, the DR250a about 50 Hz. If you want to run bass instruments without having to use a separate sub you need the DR250a. If you don't need the capability for handling bass instruments, or if you plan on separate subs anyway and want the smallest package, go with DR200.
