I run a sound company and we have JBL speakers. The tops are all horn loaded but the subs are dual 18's. I'd like to use labhorns or something similar, but I don't like the LAB12 woofer. It makes the subs powerful but unmusical. What woofers having a Faraday ring and built for horn loading can be used instead?
In what way are they "unmusical"? Could this be because you are so used to the distortion present in your old 18s that clean bass sounds unnatural? I would think that any sub speaker that can work well in a horn at high levels without getting near Xmax will sound "different" to what most of us are used to....
It's hard to put my finger on it, best I can say is that I want a 'tighter' sound. Seems like better woofers will do better distortion wise and being in a horn even lower distortion and higher output. What do you think?
