You know our little museum has been looking for a sound setup and I think I have found one. Please tell me what you think of it.

It's all Peavey.
Peavey 500 series amp, 250 WPC
Peavey 12 channel mixer
2- Peavey SP6G speakers
Peavey PV-600 looks like a stand?

They want 600.00 for it. Does this seem reasonable? She says they paid 3800.00 for it in 1996. Thanks for your help once again.

Mike

That appears to be one hell of a buy. The PV 600 is a biamp amplifier. It sells for that much by itself. SP6G's go for that much a pair.

One thing you get with Peavey is bulletproof gear, that you can buy parts for into the next century. I got some faders for a 20yr old head a few months ago.

The mixer is the weak point. Mixer technology has come a long way since 96. I'd buy the setup, sell the mixer, and then look for 12ch Yamaha or equivalent, they're less than $400, sometimes < $300. You'll get a lot more horsepower in a smaller package.

Thank you for your reply Leland. I asked the owner if there were any patch cords or mics and she said they have a bag of cords and two mics plus a JVC Cd player they'll throw in.

I'd like to get a smaller mixer as we would never need more than 6 channels if that. What is a good 6 channel model? We're going down to look at it and possibly pick it up tomorrow morning.

I did a bunch of research in mixers before I bought one for the band. That's why I mentioned the yamaha. Excellent value for the money, so are the Peaveys and Carvins. I don't know if Yamaha has a six, but I'm pretty sure Carvin and Peavey do. I'd look for a Yamaha first. Maybe an MG 12. Don't be decieved by the input numbers claimed. They'll count a stereo input as 2 input channels. You just about have to count the xlr inputs. The MG12 is actually 8 xlr's and 2 stereo channels.

Oops, it's not 8 mic ins, it's 6 xlr, with 4 mono and 2 stereo.

I'll look for a Yamaha then. I have until next August to find one

What is a decent voice/singing mic and stand? It doesn't have to be TOTL, just decent. I thank you very much for your help Leland.

I went and picked up the gear today. Here's what I ended up with.
2-SP-6G speakers
1-PV-500 Amplifier in a stand
1-Unity Series 300 Mixer
1-JVC DVD player for Karaoke
A whole music package for that karaoke crap with 450 songs
2 cheap omni mics and one Peavey XLR omni mic
a bunch of XLR cords and regular TS cords
several RCA patch cords.

So hopefully it's 600.00 worth of equipment. It sounds decent and it should work fine for our little shows.

Sennheiser e935. I bought 3 of them on ebay for < $100 each, and they are a great mic. Far better than the industry std SM58/57. The 835 is less money and may serve your needs. For stands I still prefer the old round cast base ones. But for your minimal headbanger needs I'd just buy the cheap tripod ones.

$470.00 sound to buy four E935 mics shipping included? These are B stock and carry the new 10 year warranty. Is that reasonable or should I just go for new? I've bought several refurbished items before and never had a trouble with them.

Sounds good to me. Not a huge discount from new, but not bad. I buy refurb stuff all the time. Never had any problems, except for a couple of mp3 players.
