The worlds most powerful loudspeaker doesn't use an electrodynamic transducer. It's an airstream modulator that uses compressed gas. And it's mighty loud.

Check this out:

Read somewhere that sometimes in 1800's Fyji vulcano erupted sending BANG around the globe, tree times. Now, how loud is that?

That's amazing, isn't it?

Have you heard about the Tunguska incident? It was another interesting event I imagine would have pegged the SPL meter just about everywhere.

...over the Siberian "incident". At first they thought it was UFO. Thanks for the link!

I remember all the UFO references. I also remember the theory that a black hole passed through the Earth. There has been lots of weird speculations, and that makes it an interesting investigation.

Pictures were eerie spectales... [message #26789 is a reply to message #26788] Wed, 28 July 2004 19:58 Go to previous messageGo to next message

...looking at those trees, at first they appear like matchsticks! I am wondering if it will happen again?

I can't imagine anything being so loud that it travels around the earth three times. That's just crazy but cool at the same time. I don't think I've heard anything that loud lately. That would totally blow your eardrums out for sure.

Yep these loudspeakers are exactly that - loud! But I really do not see the point of creating something like this. And I am also dubious as to a sound travelling around the world 3 times - not sure that is possible!

Don't know how it would travel round the globe three times but I wouldn't want to be at Ground Zero when it goes off. Actually I doubt if sound travels in a straight line like light does. It goes kind of like a cone, expanding outwards.

The first link posted didn't lead to the topic discussed, which maybe because it is a few years old. I looked on the net and found references to the speakers though. I never knew that this experiment could actually help with noise reduction!
