Is this stuff even worth trying out. I've got plaster walls which I love but are very bouncy. I'd rather not go to too great of length just yet for this room..

You might use curtain material. It's easy, attractive and reversible. Check out chapters 5 and 6 of the JBL Sound System Design Manual. It's a handy reference, and these two chapters deal with room acoustics.
