Will this work: Four 5 inchers and a 4 inch tweeter, set up as a m-m-t-m-m configuration, crossed at 1.5k? I know it's not a true line array.

Maybe not what some of these guys call an array, but the configuration you describe will help average out floor bounce. That will help smooth the midbass/midrange.
