More inexpensive speakers .... Don't know how, or IF they would work for line arrays ? If Roger Russell is right, what we need are a bunch of small, cheap, wide range speakers. If you found some with some excursion, we could have bass too. But one could always use a line array with subwoofers ? So, if you could get a bunch of small drivers to go down to say 100 HZ, maybe that would be cool ? Just thinking out loud ....
