What do you think of power tapering? Good idea or not?

Dave,

Power Tapering seems to be a central option in the Griffin paper. I chose not to do it. I have a 7.5 foot line array with 60 tweeters and 34 midranges.

Quite honestly I can't hear any of the issues I'm supposed to be hearing that would require the taper. And I like the big sound stage, and the really low distortion by having each of the mid ranges only covering 3.3% of the total midrange content 165hz to 2400hz.

I've had the same experience. My Linus II's were power tapered, but that was necessary because they had an odd number of midwooofers (10). My current arrays aren't, and I hear no downside.

There's also an ethical issue with power tapering. It just seems unfair that some drivers have to work harder than others to keep me entertained:)
