Has anyone built a line array using the Focal 5K013L mid-base driver?
I was looking on the Zalytron web site at their line arrays, they offer a "W Line Array" using the 5W-4254 mid bass driver. I have access to 10 5K013L (no longer produced) mid bass drivers which have similar T/S parameters - close to a drop in replacement. The only problem is the suggested ribbon tweeter for all the different versions of this array is the "Raven 2" @ $350 each. I'm sure the Raven is a quality unit I just don't have the $600 plus dollars to complete the project.

Does anyone have a suggestion on am alternative to the Raven 2 that may be cheeper, but stll comes close to the Focal quality?
I was interested in the 5 x 4 or 5 x 6 W line arrays models

Tom,

You might consider the Fountek NeoCD2.0 ribbons. They are similar in performance to the Raven 2 yet they cost $118 each vs. $350.

Do you have any direct experience with either unit? If the Raven 2 is
worth the extra money, it may be worth saving for?

Thanks for relpying

Tom,

I have not designed a speaker with the Raven 2 ribbon. I have used several ribbons models from Aurum Cantus (G2, G2si, G3, and G3i-130) and Fountek (NeoCD2.0).

The Raven 2, A-C G3, and Fountek NeoCD2.0 have similar acoustical performance. when used properly you can achieve very good performance from any of these drivers. One should keep in mind that there are enough spec differences though between these 3 tweeters that they are not interchanageable in an existing crossover circuit. For example, the nominal impedance of the Raven is 4.0 ohms vs. 8.0 ohms for the other two. Also their sensitivities differ as well.

My advice is that if you have the capability to redesign the crossover for your line array that you consider the Fountek model as it is significantly cheaper than the R2. Otherwise, you should plan on using the R2.
