Hi,
Im still not sure about the difference between a single vs tweeter line. What exactly does a LA operating in the nearfield and farfield (single tweeter) sound like? I listen in a dedicated room, in the seated position. The room is 14 X 13.

I like the Needles, although they seem to have disappeared from the suppliers sites. Im torn between the line of tweeters being more proper but the fact that one can invest in a far better single tweeter. Do 8- 24 medium quality tweeters sound better than one very high end tweeter?

I find that the huge soundfield that you get from an array of very inexpensive tweeters (got my Onkyos for as little as $0.24 each) gives a far more natural sound than a single point source tweeter than costs a thousand times as much. Of course the total cost differential isn't that wide, as I've got a dozen tweeters per box, but still it is amazing how sweet a sound you can get from very inexpensive drivers if you just use enough of them.

I'll take an exceptional sounding true ribbon tweeter to a short line of small dome tweets any day of the week. Cheap spitty sounding tweeters don't improve their sound quality if you use one or a hundred of them.

The Needles are a very nice sounding speaker. They would best in a room for a seated listening position at 8 to 14 feet from the arrays.

Well this is my concern. I have 70 of the Onkyos too but after listening to one, Im not sure I want to invest the huge amount of time into using them. So I guess what I am going to do is build a slit cabinet, using 16 of the PE 4"ers (8 per cabinet), which will allow me to add a tweeter array on the side of the stacked cabinets, or use a third cabinet in the middle for a single tweeter.Maybe even some Altec 811Bs. This is really just a test to see how a LA sounds.

Are plans for the Needles posted somewhat or available?
