There was some talk earlier about the near field being chaotic from an array. How is this different than breakup modes from a fullrange speaker? From what I am told there are some designs that use this on purpose, like with whizzer cones and dual surrounds. The Manger uses different areas for different frequencies on purpose, as does the Altec BiFlex. Arrays use different speakers, Mangers and BiFlex's used different areas on the same speaker cone. I'd like to hear from the experts on this. What do we gain? What do we lose? Ralph
I'm no expert, but I'd say that different radiating planes would act pretty much the same, whether on a single membrane or on several different ones. My guess is that single membrane allows closer placement of radiating areas but multiple drivers allows more electromagnetic strength. Steve
