HI Everyone,
Just added $25 ea. Vifa supertweeters from parts express to my single drivers. THe diffference is of course mind boggling, since the single drivers were only going to about 13K. Now i am playing with the correct corssover frequency!
It;s all fun!

Are you using polypropylene film/foil caps for your crossover? They aren't necessarily expensive, unless you buy certain brands. But the small values you need will come in polypropylene film/foil variants at very low cost.

Check out the post called "the sound of capacitors." You'll probably be interested in that. I'm not fussy about brands - There are several good components from reputable companies, in my opinion. But I am a bit particular about the technology chosen. The link in the post illustrates why.

I'm really close to ordering the Fostex FH17 alnico super tweet. However, I lean toward the 45 day trial from PE. Can you just put a 1.0 or 1.5 cap in series and forget it? Did you mount it in a baffle of some sort? Got a part#? Too many Vifa tweets to sort thru!

Hey Bill,

The simple cap works very well for this application when your looking at a 8k and higher point. This is what Fostex recomends on even the most expensive of the super tweets. I like the T90A but havnt sprung for a pair yet.

Aside from the $250 difference, the T90 has an 1076dB efficiency while the 17 has 92. The 92 seems more in line with the 806A Altec drivers? Anybody think there's an extra $250 of "magic" in the 90?

It's $26.80, 95 db eff, and 25,000 HZ 4 ohm.
PArt# VIFA MG27TG39-04 1" DOME TWEETER
I experimented last night, and finally crossed it at 6 db at 16000 cycles, which funnily enough is the published frequency for my full range driver.
Quality? It's adequate for my needs. My engineering principle is spend maximum on the frequencies you hear the most. The supertweeter does open up the soundstage BIG time and adds the air to everything.

If i was crossing lower, I would probbaly spend more on the tweeter, but this one is not bad.

The supertweeters come in thewir oen little box. Right now they are resting on a folded hand towel each on the full range cabs :-)
I plan on building a spearate tiny cab for each and placing it on top of the big cabs, with proper vibration isolation of course.
