JBL 2225H reconed as a 2235H? [message #19321]

I note the seem to both have the same magnet size, wondered if this was possible? does the 2225H have the "Symmetrical field Geometry" and the "Aluminum flux stabilizing ring" like the 2235H?

The 2225 does have the shorting ring, yes. The 2235 is tuned lower and is better for a subwoofer. The 2225 is better for a wide range high-efficiency woofer. Both are great woofers. The 2225 sounds wonderful in a slightly overdamped alignment, corner loaded. The 2235 sounds great in a max flat alignment, set out away from room boundaries.

So the 2225 could be turned into a 2235, or is there more differences than just the cone/voice coil assembly?

They have different baskets and different gaps. I don't believe the 2235 should be used in a 2225 basket. You might not be able to reach Xmax. The man to call is David Miller at Speakerworks, 918-664-6299.

Well, the guys on the audioheritage site say this will work, so I called speakerworks per Wayne's suggestion, and they say it will work perfectly, in case anyone else wants to know. They said the gap/Xmax would be determined by the spider and other parts replaced during the recone. The baskets appear to be identical. Price is very reasonable as well, plus they are in OK. so its not that far from
MO where I am located. Just as an aside, I had originally purchased
the 2225H for a PI 7 project, how does the 2235H work in this application, if at all?

Very cool, that's good news. The 2235 is an excellent woofer. It would work great in a seven π cornerhorn configuration, but the bass bin would have to be a little larger than the one for the JBL 2226. It should be 3.0ft3 to 5.03 tuned to 25Hz - 30Hz. PiAlign suggests 4.0ft3.
