I'd like to see that. Every once in a while I think about upgrading the cross-over. Then I come to my senses! Most of the mods of stuff I hear really don't improve the sound; just change it. Those old engineers knew a few things we may have forgotten in the rush to adopt all this computor modeling; forgetting that computors don't go to concerts.

Grand Master
One way to tell the 846A's from the later 846B's is whether or not it's ported. The early 846A's used a slot on each side of the 811 horn. Which is like the pair I have had since 1966. The later 846B's had a reflex port and the horn was sealed on all front edges. I'd go here and ask the experts. There are several guys there that know a lot about Altec equipment.
