I noticed the latest PE sales flyer includes four Eminence drivers that are "custom manufactured by Eminence for an American pro sound speaker cabinet manufacturer". The 15", 12", and 10" seem to combine features of the Alpha and Beta drivers. The 8" has exactly the same published specs as the Beta 8, and it's offered for $36, vs PE's regular price of $48.49 for that driver. Looks like it would be a good midrange in a three way Eminence system, with an F3 of about 120 in a 0.4 cu ft sealed box. Any opinions?

You're right. Most of those "buyout" drivers are those made for an OEM that has gone out of business. The intended purchaser specified electro-mechanical specs and Eminence used one of their existing frames and magnet structures to base the driver on. So naturally, they're pretty close to models stocked by Eminence, just slightly different T/S specs. The 8" or 10" units will probably make wonderful midrange drivers. Let us know if you try 'em out!

I reconfigured the speakers with the woofer and tweeter in the enclosure just as the plans specify, and the Beta 8 in a separate 0.5 cu ft sealed enclosure atop the main cabinet. The Delta 12LF is now rolled off with a 6mH 16ga Erse Super Q inductor (0.27 ohms DCR). The woofer low pass filter now controls the midrange driver, with no chages except for the zoebel cap. The sealed enclosure rolls off the bass with a -3dB frequence of about 120hz. The tweeter high pass filter is unchanged. It plays really loud and clear with the 40 watt Audio Mirror SET monoblocks, and the 3 watt Paramours will drive it to room filling volume too.
