When pairing the JBL 2226 with a SET amp, it depends a lot on the amp configuration. Now that I think about it, every 2A3 I have heard sounded wonderful with the 2226. I've heard a couple of SET amps that were a bit light in the bass when used with 2226's, but those amps tended to lack bass with most speakers. What amp are you planning to use?

I have used 45/2A3/300B and EL34 SE with my 2226's and find they do a nice job with them.

If your needs are for heavy bottom octave bass, you would need a subwoofer even when used with high powered SS.

2226 is -3db down @ 45hz, so great midbass driver!

Are you planning on using a Edgarhorn on top also, or just a typical JBL horn?

Thanks for the note. Looks as if you mounted it from the back? I like the look of that from the front, but kind of difficult to remove the driver later, unless you don't glue on the back. How did you handle that?

Hi Steve,

Glad to hear you settled on the JBL's. I know you'll be very happy with them. I have both an Eminence and JBL system at home. As good as the Theatre-3's are, the JBL's are way better. Of course, they cost about 5x as much.

Attached are photos of cabinet contruction for my JBL 2235's. Hope you'll find them helpful. Front baffle's doubled up with 3/4" and 5/8" MDF. With a rabbet of 1/2" to flush mount the woofer, you still have 7/8" of material to secure the driver.
