Are the Altec and JBL drivers sharing the same internal enclosure?

I am just wondering why 2 different drivers in the same enclosure.

Try a Great Plains 399 driver on top with a 1.4" horn to really kick it out!!!

There are two seperate enclosures (I can barely pick up one at a time). The bottom one is 25"X24"X24; the upper is 25"X24"X16" (approx). Pics are below.

At $2800 a pair retail I have high hopes for the 1.5" JBL 2435 drivers but I won't know until I get the horns in.

As far as GPA goes, thanks for the suggestion but I'd rather buy Bose first.

You have me confused, you compare Great Plains Audio with Bose??? Is there a problem with GPA you have run into???

I have had nothing but great success with Bill at Great Plains. I have bought pairs of 416C's/902B's and just recently a pair of 399's(modern day version of 288K's) and I like the quality of the product, Bill is always willing to discuss pros and cons of application of the drivers and has had some good suggestions.

I am thinking you must have had a bad experience with something/someone.

Please e-mail me through this forum with more info, I am curious why you feel this way. I also notice you mentioned to Wayne about not using Iconic, so my curiosity if raised.

I agree. I recently bought a pair of 414-8c's from Bill, and they are very fine quality. It took a while to get them, but that can be expected from a small shop like GPA. I would not hesitate to do business with Bill again.

I was under the delusion that once I got the P.Audio 316 horns with their 100 X 100 dispersion this would work out. I was wronger than wrong. The horns were so far above the seated position you got only off-axis poo-poo. I could EQ it flat at one location, but the slightest change in position brought new horrors to the ear.

I put the JBL boxes on the floor, moved the big Altec boxes to the corner running them as mono subs with a line level 35Hz first-order filter. That will be a "movies only" thing.

With the horns at ear level, a Crown K on the 2225's and a Crown D-75A on the 2435's they at least play music now - maybe not great, but one whole hell of a lot better.

I've got to get back to working on the bathroom remodel - I think my wife has almost run out of patience with this project.

So The answer would be-to shift the acoustical axis downwards through xover changes/driver positioning?

I've got to get back to working on the bathroom remodel - I think my wife has almost run out of patience with this project.

I just got the horn down to seated ear level, more or less. That way I wasn't EQ-ing for way off-axis response.

I'm already wondering about another attempt - this has had me facinated for quite a long time, but I never built one.

I've got the parts in a closet

I love the old stuff-looking back at historical loudspeaker milestones gives you an idea of where we are headed-and often it doesnt sound bad!

Funny scoop?I dont know how it will sound in the low vocal range -but many are happy with BLH
