Why are pro sound drivers like the Eminence drivers so sensitive? How are they built differently from home audio drivers?

I am sure others will add, but here's my 2 cents:
cent 1: Huge magnets
cent 2: light cones

True, and the resulting high fs and low Qts quite often will result in cent 3: No bass. Unless you put them in horns or other boxes that can bring the bass response up, that is. Newbies very often toss pro-sound drivers into inadequate boxes and are puzzled why they have no bass response. The steps required to gain high sensitivity is why.

I agree. BIG boxes!

After getting used to living with 5 cubic ft boxes, 3 and 4 cubic ft cabinets seem small. Although I wouldn't push my luck with my wife and try for a pair of 10 cubic footers.

Laws of physics, you can't have low frequency extension without giving up sensitivity or, you can't have high sensitvity without giving up low freq. extension. You can have one or the other but not both.

I just said the same thing in the last post I think DUH. What I meant was Low freq extension less sensitvity. Hi sensitivity less low freq extension. Because of the laws of physics you can have one but not the other.

The law is correct, but there is a common misconception associated with it. It's true that from a given driver, box size and alignment that there will always be a trade off between size, extension and SPL. However, from a given box size alone there is not an absolute relationship between extension and SPL. The driver parameters and alignment are just as important as controlling factors in the equation.
