Doing a theater renovation and found a 6 or 7 voice of the theater cabinets. They are plywood enclosures with a horn and crossovers and contain altec 515b 15"/16ohm speakers. Are the 15" speakers worth salvaging for a bass amp before they go to the dumpster?

They're probably worth at least $200 each on eBay.

The 515b Waung; is that the Alnico version? Whatever you do don't toss them, they are wonderful sounding drivers and worth some change. Put them in the ART for sale Forum, someone will buy them.

Yes. The 515/B/C/8LF were all Alnico.

Maybe if somebody is nearby they might "liberate" them rather than see them thrown away.

Excuse me, but would you throw away 1000 dollars, people will be fighting in your front yard at 200 a piece. For what ever reason, that is probably the most sought after 515 drivers. Send them for recone ( GPA) and put them on ebay. I have seen pairs of 515b sell for over 900 bucks. frankly, I like the 416 8c, better, but it has no where near the collecability of the 515 b.

Throw them away? People never cease to amaze me!
